“EnLIGHTenment“ is a performance project combining sound, light and movement. Its central theme are networks of physical, biological and social nature, and the exploration of the phenomenon of (inter)-connections, transference & transmission, both in physical form (e.g. with electric current), as well as in emotional or interpersonal form.

Yuko Kaseki engages with this topic in typical characteristic Butoh tradition: with clarity and reduction on one hand, but also with an intense, unfiltered expression on the other.

Musically, the performance explores the territories of experimental, ambient and noise music, with the rather obscure experimental musical instrument ‘daxophone’ dictating the sonic framework.

The performative fusion of sound and light is of fundamental importance in “enLIGHTenment“. Different forms of light are being used: light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and floodlights, which are controlled in real time by means of a specially designed light control system by Kriton Beyer.

As the “light ninja” in this project, Teo Vlad complements, comments and interferes using both light and movement.

The performance “enLIGHTenment” is specially adapted to the location of the Wasserspeicher in Prenzlauer Berg: an industrial monument of almost sacral beauty, with very unique architectural and acoustic characteristics.
